Jay Strosberg

Jay Strosberg is a partner at Sutts, Strosberg LLP.  He was admitted to the Ontario bar in 2002 and is a graduate of the University of Windsor (LL.B.) and Huron University College (B.A.).

Jay practices exclusively in the area of class action litigation with a focus on securities and anti-trust litigation. He was a member of the counsel team that settled:

the Atlas Cold Storage Income Trust securities class action for $40 million, the third largest securities class action settlement in Canadian history;

the NovaGold Resources cross-border securities class action for $28 million (subject to court approval);

a series of class actions against CIBC World Markets, Inc. Merrill Lynch Canada Inc., Scotia Capital Inc. and TD Waterhouse concerning foreign exchange charges charged to customers who traded in foreign securities ($25 million);

the Southwestern Resources Corp. securities class action ($15.5 million), which is the first settlement in a securities class action where leave was sought under Part XXIII.1 of Ontario’s Securities Act; and

the CV Technologies securities class action for $7.1 million (subject to court approval).

Jay is currently involved in several complex class actions, including the Imax Corporation class action (the first case in which leave was granted to proceed with a claim for misrepresentation in the secondary market under Part XXIII.1 of Ontario's Securities Act), the Chocolate anti trust class actions and the Packaged Ice anti trust class actions.

Jay delivers a lecture on the topic of securities class actions at the University of Windsor Law School each year.
